What is the difference between Level 1 and Level 2?
Level 1 team’s are recreational teams and play through the season just for the fun of playing. Standings are not kept and scores are not recorded, although we do not discourage identifying who the winning team is after the game. Level 1 team’s play all of their games at park against other Level 1 VSA teams. The level 1 program is for kids 5 to 10 years old.
Level 2 teams are more competitive and play their games against other Level 2 teams from surrounding communities (Cabot, Conway, Greenbrier, etc.). Level 2 teams play their home games at the park and away games at the other team’s facilities. The Level 2 program is for kids 9 to 13 years old.
The fee for Level 1 players includes a T-shirt to play in and an end of year award. It also covers the cost of insurance, administrative costs and supplies (balls, field paint, goals, nets etc.). Level 2 players will typically play more game and the price covers the cost of a numbered soccer jersey (players provide their own black shorts and socks) and fees for referees, insurance, administrative costs and supplies.
What is the “Pee Wee” Program?
The Pee Wee program is an instructional program for kid’s ages 4 to 5. The kids are not on individual teams, instead they meet as a group once a week for an hour. The first 30 minutes they are taught the basics of the game. For the second 30 minutes the kids are split into teams of 3 or 4 kids and play a “game”.
The Pee Wee program is a parent participation program. One parent (or other adult family members) is required to be on the field with their child during the instructional part of the session.
When will the season start?
For Level 1 and Pee Wee teams the first game is scheduled for Sept. 18th. We play a 6 week schedule with a break after the 3rd week that can be used as a rain day.
For Level 2 teams there is a scheduling meeting Aug. 23rd with other area teams. Games will begin within two weeks after the meeting. Games could run into Nov.
How long are the games and how many do they play?
Level 1 teams play 2, 30 minute games each weekend. The games consist of 4, 6 minute quarters with a 5 minute break for half time.
How many players are on a team and how many are on the field at one time?
U6 teams will typically have 4 to 6 players on a team and play 3 vs. 3. U8 and U10 teams typically have 5 to 7 players per team and play 4 vs. 4. Older age groups and Level 2 teams will typically play 6 vs. 6 or 7 vs. 7.
When and where are the games?
All Level 1 and Pee Wee games will be on Saturday at the City Park. Level 2 teams will Play their home games at the City Park and/or at the High School on Saturday Afternoons.
What equipment does my child need?
For Level 1 and Pee Wee players the VSA provides a T-shirt to wear during the games. They will also need soccer shorts, socks, soccer shoes and shin guards. Level 2 players will recieve a numbered team shrit players are responsible for getting their own shorts, soccer shoes and shin guards and socks. Kids will not be allowed to play or practice without shin guards. Baseball/football cleats are not acceptable for safety reasons.
How much will my child get to play?
It is required that each child get to play at least half of every game.
Are we allowed to bring coolers to the games?
No. You are asked to only bring a water bottle for your kids to keep them hydrated during the games. The VSA will have a concession stand at each game that will have snacks, drinks and hot dogs available each Saturday. The prices at the concession stand are below what you will find at most supermarkets and convenience stores and 100% of the profits go back into our program.
Is there a gate fee at the park?
Yes. Although we hope to one day eliminate the gate fee as sponsorships and concession revenue increase, the fee helps us cover the cost of field maintenance.
